I have to applaud Emily for bringing such a real soldier spirit to Rita and making her a warrior to her core. We don’t see her have any emotional breakdowns or need approval from anyone. She doesn’t spend any time feeling sorry for herself or whining over her circumstances. The best part about Rita is that she doesn’t need anyone to “save” her like we all see in most movies. She mentioned that she also wore a weight vest to prepare for the giant suit she was going to wear in her action scenes. “I wanted her to look lethal,” she said about her character Rita. Even Tom Cruise said he never had worked with anyone else who came to set that prepared and in shape. She was able to accomplish her transformation in 3 months. That’s a serious amount of weight to be carrying around.Īccording to Emily Blunt, she trained 6 days a week for 2 and a half hours every day doing everything from yoga, Krav Maga, gymnastics, weight training, to sprinting. The suits they wore could weigh anywhere between 85 to 125 lbs. I rarely ever see women with actual built traps or shoulders in movies. Shout out to Emily Blunt for putting in that much hard work. She looked pretty ripped, but there’s one scene where we really see her impressive size: She has the physical frame to lift heavy weights, run through alien-infested fields, and throw around the huge sword she carries. I actually believe she is the badass character, Rita Vrataski. and threw that guy across the room.Įmily Blunt clearly worked insanely hard to add some size to her frame. They rarely have any muscle, so it’s hard to believe they just overhead pressed 150 lbs. They climb walls with ease and supposedly are strong enough to take down really buff dudes? Please. Most movies with a female-lead are always running around with not a single ounce of muscle to their frames. What really got my attention was that Emily Blunt actually looks believable as a warrior. She sacrifices at every turn and takes constant risks. I won’t go into too many spoilers, but we learn that she is quite the tough ass.įor once, it was nice to see the woman be the badass who had a no-apologies approach to everything. Instead of just a tank top and short-shorts like 99% of female-lead action movies, she actually has serious armor. She plays Rita Vrataski, or who everyone in their world calls both “The Angel of Verdun” and “Full Metal Bitch”. Let me explain why.įirst off, Tom Cruise is not the main badass role. However, after just finishing the movie I have to say it far exceeded my expectations. You might be eye-rolling, and to be honest, I did too. They do not lose it by blood loss/transfusion, and the ending is completely different.Another movie starring Tom Cruise fighting aliens? In the comic that the movie is based on, "All you need is Kill", Rita and Kenji (Cage's counterpart) still retain the power until the end. Rita, as smart as she is, quickly surmised that her blood loss, like the dead Alpha's blood loss, leads to loosing the power. It's this intense feeling that is gone that lets them know it happened. Remember, the power comes with a mental component, psychically linking the Alpha (Rita or Cage) to the Omega. I can't reset the day anymore.Ĭonsidering Rita does not argue with him at all, and immediately starts planning their next steps, it's obvious that she knows what he means. with three pints of someone else's blood and I was out.Īfter the crash, when Cage is tied down, and Rita, having escaped in 3 minutes flat, is about to kill him to trigger a reset: You get injured on the field, you better make sure you die. As Full Metal explains to Cage the only rule: The Alpha blood must impart a feeling like that as part of it's power. Like being drunk or a hang over, you just know when it's gone. Some senses, feelings, or states can be felt intuitively. Rita Vrataski (Emily's character) and Cage both state the same thing.
